 Why Do an Internship Abroad?

It's a great way to enhance a resume!  In addition to providing students with hands-on experience and a developed sense of the Veterinary Science discipline on a global scale, international internships can significantly improve prospects for employment and graduate school applications.  With 2010 just around the corner, AIDE is accepting applications for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.

Here are just a couple of the International Veterinary Science Internships that AIDE offers:

workoutbackkangaroo.jpgWork in the Australian Outback:  Participants will receive hands-on experience with rural farm animals.  Our Work Outback program will place you in a paid position in a small town in the Australian Outback, where you will work with horses, cattle, or sheep. This is ideal training for students who wish to apply to Vet school! After a five-day orientation on a working farm, where you will learn new skills involving the care of cattle and horses, you will ultimately select the right job for you.

:  Interns will spend the majority of their time working side-by-side with the veterinarian in a domestic animal practice (dogs, cats, birds, etc.), but there will be occasional opportunities to travel around Ecuador to treat wild animals living in shelters, where the vet also spends some of his time.

costaricaveterinary.jpgAnimal Rescue and Rehabilitation in Costa Rica:  The goal of these animal sanctuaries is to re-introduce endangered species to their natural habitat.  The facilities provide rehabilitation for injured and abandoned animals.  Interns help feed and socialize the animals, assist veterinarians with medical procedures, build and repair enclosures, and work with the sanctuary on any other ongoing projects.  Animals include monkeys, sloths, porcupines, anteaters, alligators, and turtles.
